Dust Ruffles and more!

I'm into the final stage of my petticoat production. I made my own dust ruffle as it seemed fitting what with the homemade patch and all. I'm keeping to the pattern which is somewhat primitive. There were a couple of  dicey moments but all in all I think it's shaping up nicely.

The final part is what is called a 'Flounce'. I know. I didn't know what that was either until just a week ago. This will challenge my sewing abilities as well as instructional comprehension like never before! I will be adding lace as well as 'tucking'. I've always admired the technique on antique clothing I've seen but never thought I would do it myself.

Below is the petticoat with the dust ruffle I just finished sewing up!

Petticoat Junction!

I'm definitely  ageing myself with this title! For those of you that may be too young to get the pun, Google it and see what you get. *Smile*

So with the New Year upon us I wanted to share my latest project. I'm making an authentic Victorian style Petticoat. I've always loved the 'old time' undergarments. It takes me back to watching westerns when I was a girl and loving the saloon girl's garb! I just adored the colors, textiles and the audacious femininity that emitted from the ladies that 'entertained' men.
The little flower patch was my answer to a couple of small holes in the material that I didn't notice until after cutting was completed. Seemed in keeping with the era's way to fix it. Those gals couldn't exactly run down to JoAnn's.

I'm going for the whole ensemble so stay tuned!
